Low Disturbance Manure Application
Low disturbance manure application is also known as P-Band. P-Band is the sub-surface (below surface of soil) placement of manure. Below are a few facts:
■ Manure should be injected into soil to
prevent nutrient loss and protect water.
■ Challenge is to do this without destroying
crop residue and creating erosion.
■ Some manure application equipment does
a better job of protecting crop residue.
The recommended method of applying hog manure is to inject it into the soil, reducing odor and surface run-off while minimizing the loss of valuable nutrients to the atmosphere. Research has shown that as much as 30% of the nitrogen can be lost through volatilization.
