Low Disturbance Manure Application
Low disturbance manure application is also known as P-Band. P-Band is the sub-surface (below surface of soil) placement of manure. P-band reduces the potential of phosphorous runoff due to manure being placed underground.
Manure should be injected into the soil to prevent nutrient loss and protect the quality of water, the challenge is to do this without destroying crop reside and creating erosion. Some manure application equipment does a better job of protecting crop reside.
The recommended method of applying hog manure is to inject it into the soil, reducing odor and surface run-off while minimizing the loss of valuable nutrients to the atmosphere. Research has shown that as much as 30% of the nitrogen can be lost through volatilization.
